Recognition and Rewards
Over the years, Jerry has been a finalist for the Eisenhower Fellowship and the Yale World Fellowship. He also received nominations for the Young Global Leader (WEF) and other awards.
In 2011, Jerry was nominated for the Magsaysay awards for all his work over the years and the CARING CAPITAL program he conceptualized and implemented with Ms. Neelima Mishra who was also nominated for the awards. Neelima was encouraged by Jerry to go ahead and receive the award but Jerry declined the awards because he believes with all humility, that there is a need for lot more to be done for social justice and what has been done so far by him is just a speck of sand in the desert and there are miles to go before I sleep and rest on past laurels. Jerry says he would rather use the time it takes to lobby and travel for these awards to work with farmers and skill development for poor youth as when they get empowered with livelihood is the real reward for Jerry
Way back in 2003, Jerry was nominated for the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Awards by one of India’s finest Statesman, the late Mr. Vasant Sathe for creating and promoting the JOY OF GIVING campaign. Jerry explained to Mr. Sathe that he does not believe in accepting awards for his humanitarian work and requested Mr. Sathe to consider Ms. Geeta Sawhney Singh and Mr. Avinash Singh for the award. They were the filmmakers who worked with Jerry to produce the award winning, game changing JOY OF GIVING short movie, which changed the philanthropic mindset in India. Today the JOY OF GIVING has become a huge movement in India and overseas.
